For ten years, I dreamed of living in Madrid. Setting long-term goals is key to pursuing your dreams!

The smell of pastries, cigarette smoke, and April flowers filled my nose as I walked beside the River Seine. Two Parisian women brushed by me chatting in French and I watched a business man take off on his vespa after finishing his cappuccino at a cafe. After a day of touring the Luxembourg Palace, my head was spinning with rich colors, sparkling fabrics, and antique details.

And that’s when I felt it. A gut wrenching longing to live everday surrounded by the beauty, inspiration, and creativity that gave this European city life.

Turning to my Mom, I said. “Mom, I want to live in Europe.” She smiled, her eyes sparkling with the same wanderlust I inherited.

“In college you should study abroad. Then you can move here.” She replied. “And then I’ll visit you.”

I smiled. “Deal.”

Ten years later, I’m living in Madrid.

Choosing to study abroad for the fall of my sophomore year wasn’t on my radar until spring of 2021. Honestly, I anticipated studying abroad later in my college career. However, the opportunity popped up–and with the support of my family–I took it. COVID understandably has deterred many students from studying abroad, however, if I have learned one thing lately, it is this: There will never be a “perfect time.” There will always be something that is stopping or discouraging you from reaching your goal. Therefore, if it is at all possible, just go for it.

If you stay up-to-date with my Instagram then you’ve seen much of my journey. However, allow me to share what life looks like, what I have been up to, and a few golden memories thus far.

First day of school photos are a must. I am currently attending Nebrija University to study Marketing, Fashion, and Spanish.

My dream to live abroad began 10 years ago. It took a long time, a lot of paper work, and a lot of preparation. However, never give up on your goals merely because there is an easier, faster road. Your time and effort is an investment. Hard work and perseverance will reap a far greater reward than investing in what is comfortable and easy.

You will never look back and regret the extra time you put into achieving your goals.

I am excited to continue sharing this journey with you! The next few weeks include two exciting trips and more city exploring. Join me on daily adventures over on my Instagram, and let me know if you know any places I should check out. Que tengas un buen día!
